#SecretSubjectSwap: Apocalypse

Here is my assigned topic for this month’s Secret Subject Swap from Jenniy French at Climaxed.

“The characters for the last TV show you watched or book you read are your post-apocalypse crew. How would your group do? What do you see each character doing and how do you fit into the mix?

A zombie apocalypse…that’s the first thing that comes to mind but it’s also the most improbable. It just won’t, can’t happen. But, it is fun to think about, especially if you are a fan of shows like “The Walking Dead” and “Fear the Walking Dead”, among others.

There are other, more realistic scenarios for an apocalypse: nuclear winter, global wars, viral plagues, large meteor strike, and many more.

As to the cast of characters, we watch many (too many) shows (recorded on a regular basis), so I’ll just pick a one. For this exercise, I’m going with the ever popular Big Bang Theory.

Cast of characters:

  • Sheldon
  • Amy
  • Howard
  • Bernadette
  • Leonard
  • Penny
  • Raj
  • Stuart

My crew is awesome! No, seriously. Think about it. They are physicists, scientists, microbiologists, an engineer, an actress/waitress/sales person and a store owner/entrepreneur. That’s quite a mix, right? We’re prepared for all contingencies! Oh, me? I’ll be the raconteur/storyteller/historian (and I know how to use a gun).

We are the brains team, not the brawn team, but that’s okay. We can think our way through our various predicaments and if we get conquered/bullied we are smart enough to 1) trick our way out of things &/or 2) make ourselves indispensable to the new group.

What will be the toughest challenge for my group? Surviving without our electronics and the internet. We’re all dependent on it and it will be our biggest challenge, not the other survivors (as noted above, we can outsmart many of them).

We won’t know the date or time, we won’t be able to research anything, our reading will be limited to those things that are printed and made it through the wars, and we probably won’t have power for anything anyway. Banks will be useless, gas pumps won’t run, communication will be extremely limited (maybe short-wave will survive), medical facilities will be limited, and our food will be limited until we can regroup.

My hubby and I often joke about the “what if” and we always say we want to go in the first wave. We’re too old to deal with survivalists, never mind the wackos, sickos, criminals and those who hunger for power and control. Oh, and the disease and illnesses that will run rampant, the constant search for food…you get the idea. So, in honor of that, we created a fun little website: In the First Wave. LOL!

What is the Secret Subject Swap. Simply put, a group of bloggers submit ideas, topics, or questions to be answered in a post. Then the hostess, Karen @BakingInATornado.com, divies the ideas back out to the participating bloggers. Then they write. These brave bloggers picked a secret subject for someone else and were in turn assigned a secret subject to interpret in their own style. Here are links to the blogs featuring their Secret Subject Swap posts today. So sit back, grab a cuppa, and check them out. You’re bound to find one to enjoy and maybe even promote some thoughts of your own.

Here are this month’s brave bloggers:

Ciao for now!

Great choice! I would want to go out in the first round too. I don’t have the energy to fight zombies.

Within your crew I mostly trust the actor / waitress / sales person’s skills. Clearly she knows how to hustle and get by with very little.
And I agree, I wouldn’t want to survive a near doomsday either. We’re had our time, and when it’s over, it’s time to say goodbye.

You could really fix some issues and begin to rebuild with that crew actually! It would be pretty great. It reminds me of this short lived reality tv show that put together a crew with similar skillsets to see if they could survive an end of the world situation. I’d be stuck with the family from Bob’s Burgers and with the exception of Louise, I would be in huge trouble. ha! Or I’ve been reading Terry Pratchett’s Discworld series, and the one I’m currently on is about Death, so that could be interesting….
