EGGxactly!

The biggest news this week has been the watching the chicks hatch in the recently discovered robin’s nest.

We posted last week with this photo of the nest and eggs. We learned the darker color means a healthy mother and, hopefully, health babies.

On Wednesday, Stu got the first picture of a couple of the babies. Yeah, that’s the two chicken-tenderish looking blobs in the new picture.

On Thursday, one more baby was out and even though he couldn’t catch the pic, one of the babies opened their mouth as he took the photo. (He has to stand on a stool to get these pictures.)

And now it looks like all the eggs are hatched and there may be a hair more feathers popping out!

In other news – not much to tell. Well, we did get Scooby (our F-250 pickup) back this week. To the tune of just over $3k. But he should be good to go for many more miles now. Stu has really missed the truck and immediately went to get more mulch and some lumber to fix the stair railing on our deck. (Yes, the whole deck needs restaining…LOL) He also spent two days cleaning the truck – inside and out (much needed)!

It’s been a week of yard work for him – lots of mulching done, more to do. Several small trees transplanted and always mowing, and more mowing.

The other thing was mounting some bamboo-look roll-up shades on the deck to help keep the morning sun off the covered area – which should help keep that cooler. Our first summer we used a pop-up canopy but that became a pain when it rained. It had to come down or water would pool in it, stretching the material and making a mess when you pushed it upward. Hoping this will be a better solution.

Here are a couple of photos showing it partway down. We may make some adjustments as we see how the sunlight comes through the next couple of mornings.

And from the outside…

I’m also happy my chimes are back where they belong since the plastic sheeting on the side is now down for the summer. It did really help this past winter, keeping rain and snow off the covered part of the deck.

I haven’t put up any hummingbird feeders yet – maybe this week! Friday we venture to Knoxville for my pre-surgical workup. The #2doods will spend the day and one overnight at doggy camp. They will love that!

Ciao for now!
