Mardi Gras Cruising – Our Cabin

There were things we liked and some we didn’t when it came to our balcony cabin on the ship.

  • LIKES:
    1. Bedside USB plug. I used mine for my USB fan. Stu used his for his phone.
    2. The lighting was much nicer, softer yet worked well. The little flip-up reading lamp was a nice touch but rarely used unless one of us was asleep.
    3. The sliding glass door to the balcony was THE BOMB!!!
    4. The glass shower door was SO much nicer than the old curtain.
    5. So happy to see extra plugs on the vanity – just wish it were a bit larger. We really cluttered it up with electronics and other stuff. LOL!
    6. The BIG television – we sure wished we had one that size when we were quarantined on the Magic last January (that one was about the size of our desktop monitors).
  • DISLIKES:
    1. No chair for the vanity. Stu always used that for his desk. The multi-purpose hassock (top turned over was a tray – HEAVY tray) was where I stored a lot of my Mardi Gras stuff including our gift bags.
    2. Very deep drawers so one less than other ships. Would have preferred shallower drawers and add one more. The top drawer had the hair dryer but since it was no longer hard wired, I took it out and stuffed it down beside the sofa.
    3. The balcony had a light but we had no way to control it!
    4. No dust ruffle to hide our luggage under the beds (tacky).
    5. Bathroom shelf space is half what it is on other ships…fortunately Stu just used his toiletry bag and I used the shelves.
    6. The little corner shelf in the shower needed narrower slots. My razor kept falling through and my travel size shampoo didn’t want to stand. Yeah, I know. First world problems.
  • MEH:
    1. Both the cabin and the bathrooms were smaller. We aren’t huge people, so not a huge biggie for us. I did miss the extra bathroom shelf space we’d had on the other ships. But  the shower seemed bigger! The bar for your foot (ladies shaving) was a miss. Too low..
    2. Nightstands were two metal shelves, top one not as deep (long) as the bottom. No cabinet style storage.
    3. The need for a card in the slot by the door was no biggie – we always carry an old card, plus a business card works. For 90% of the time, our room steward left a blank in it for us. And yes, we were good about pulling it up when we left the cabin. It actually was more convenient than just turning off all the lights. Pop the blank down and bingo, the light you left on was now ON!

Here are a few cabin pictures:

Due to the smaller space, Stu had to squeeze his scuba bag under the bed. On other ships, he’s been able to set it up by the balcony door where it stayed the entire time. This time, he ended up turning the vanity hassock sideways and stuck it up beside the vanity. It worked, just not as nicely as the older, smaller ships that had bigger cabins.
