In preparation for planting the trees we’ve ordered, on Wednesday Stu rented a rototiller to loosen and break up the soil along the two fence lines. He thought it would be an easy four hours to get them both tilled. He got to use his new trailer, too!
Well, he managed about 2/3 of it but it almost took him out the first time he started up. He fell to the ground and the tiller blades hit him. Thank goodness the machine has an automatic stop when you let go. If you know Stu, you know he got up and just “guts upped” to continue, knowing he needed to get as much done as he could before returning it.
He came in for dinner and that was when I found out he had gotten hurt. He got both legs cleaned up, his left knee being the worse. No damage to his knee replacement but oh boy, talk about bruising! I took some photos this morning as he bandaged up for the day. It’s pretty graphic, so click if you want to see his left knee, his right leg. He immediately got compression on it with a knee brace and took two aspirin to help prevent any blood clots. All was good – until he went to bed. After maybe 30 minutes he came out to the living room in excruciating pain. He iced it. No help. He took pain meds and got some relief after almost an hour. He tried heat and immediately discarded that.
I stayed up with him and we binge watched the Alone series on Amazon Prime. We had just finished Alone: Australia and really enjoyed it. Around 3am I fell asleep on the sofa recliner and he said he got about an hour of sleep in his recliner. He had planned to finish the rest Thursday morning but that was out. He returned the rototiller and decided to work on putting sides on the trailer so he could pick up mulch on Friday.
We had planned on a helper to put down the mulch, but he wasn’t available. Stu got the first load of mulch this morning and is working on prepping the area for it the rest of the afternoon. With Cooper’s help, of course.
The plan now is to take it slowly. The trees for the north side of the pole barn won’t ship till next week so the ones for the south side down in the pasture area will go in first. They are still doing great, loving being outdoors.
Our new bench arrived before all this happened and Stu quickly assembled it. This gives us storage in two small deck boxes, one large deck box, and this bench. We now have covers for the patio table and each of the four chairs, plus the Blackstone grill. We have pillows that can be used with any of the chairs (patio or Adirondack) as well as on the bench. The covers and pillows will be stored in the bench when not in use. We also got a bench pad for seating. I love the pop of color!
I dug out my old Panasonic camera to take photos of Stu in the yard (it has 20x zoom) and will eventually be used for birds in our feeder when we get it set up again. I used it to snap a couple Cooper pics – not sure why his mouth was open in all three. LOL! Must have been hot?

Ouch ouch ouch! Man, Stu is one tough mother. There’s no way I’d be doing ANYTHING if even one of my legs looked like that…much less both of them. Geez, tell him to slow down some! I hope he can get more sleep tonight (you too). Love you guys!
Looks a lot worse than it is. Irritating more than anything.
Dude! Why? I hope there are no lasting injuries. Forget the heat. Keep icing it. Hire someone to do that work. Donna, use force if you must. Hugs from the Geeks On World Tour.
Yeah, we hired a dude and he was a no-show. Life moves on!
That one picture of the knee looks like an ER visit from where I set.
