Well, we finally got all our trees and forsythia bushes planted. Turns out there were more than 25 forsythia bushes so we gave the extras to a neighbor to plant. Phew! All the fence line from the front cross fence now has trees or bushes. We look forward to the future privacy and, of course, the bright yellow pop from the forsythia in spring.
So what did we do? Well, growing up in New England the two spring bushes I remember were forsythia (taken care of) and lilac. The smell of the lilacs blooming was so nice! After a little searching, we discovered one of our local Walmarts had bare root lilac bushes for under $7 each. We figured out where we could put them and Stu ran out and picked up six. Two are now planted and as soon as the rain lets up and he recovers from all the yard work he’s been doing, he will plant those. They have different growth patterns so it may be a couple of years before we see much on the lilacs, but I look forward to them blooming.

Yesterday my job was to wash all the throw rugs (kitchen & bathroom) and throw pillows from the front porch. Then I tackled the white rockers on the porch. It will all get pressure washed in June when the windows are done and the awnings and shutters have to come down, but I wanted to be able sit out there when the temperature and weather allow. I also washed the tables and our parcel box.
While I was doing this, Stu finished putting out the mulch he had and then he tackled the new bird feeder hanger stand we bought. We still have to get some sunflower seeds but the birds are happy.
Later in the day we both tackled the three deck boxes and storage bench on the back deck. When I pulled the cushions and pillows out from the bench, it was wet inside. We had some pretty strong winds so we’re guessing that’s how it got in and pooled in the bottom. The cushions and pillows are now on the chairs under their covers. We reorganized all the contents of the deck boxes and moved a small one over by the grill with all the associated stuff inside. The bench got moved under the covered area of the deck by moving Stu’s chair around a bit. It will store the table and chair covers once we are actively using the set. We have two new stools on order for us that will arrive next week. And I got to put our frogs back out for display. They’ve been inside a deck box for over a year while Stu rebuilt our deck.
It’s really breezy today, supposed to rain but nothing yet. The blurry leaves are due to the wind when I snapped the shot.
Not much else new. Not sure Stu will get much more done on his Falcon until he returns from Maryland in early June. He leaves on the 15th of this month, so he’s hoping to get the yard work finished before then. BUT….he bought several raised garden beds to put under the edge of the deck. No idea what we will plant in them…I see more watering needs in my future!
