We used to go all out decorating the house at Christmas. Outdoor lights, garlands, tables inside covered with decorations, all the inside doors with hanging items. As much as I love the look of the house all lit up outside, we’re getting too old to deal with it. At least we have this photo to remind us.
Last year we downsized to just a quilted Christmas tree, that I got on ebay, hung on the inside of the back door to the deck and a wreath on the outside of the front door.
This year we cleaned out all the boxed up decorations (who needs THREE wreaths of varying sizes?) and donated a huge tote filled with decorations as well as a kitchen trash bag full of lights to our local senior center with permission to use or give out to folks who needed them.
So once again, this year it’s just a few items, things that will easily fit into a dresser drawer in the guest room. Our memory Christmas items/ornaments are safely tucked away in a tote for – who knows what? LOL!
In other news, Thanksgiving was quiet. Two days earlier we picked up a meal at Cracker Barrel to reheat on Thursday. Meatloaf, chicken tenders, mac ‘n cheese, fried apples, and biscuits. It was delicious and we got several meals out of it. (photo from website)
The cold weather has moved in and our heat pump is not a fan of temps below 40 degrees. We’ve had several days that didn’t get above the 30s with nights in the teens. We’ve always had a couple of space heaters, one in the living room, one in the office, and one in the kitchen where Stu has his informal desk. When I pulled out the one in the living room to use, it was dead. Time to order a new one.
After researching prices and ratings, I ordered this one that was luckily priced for the Black Friday sales. It’s working well, it’s very quiet, the only complaint I have it the remote doesn’t work well. I’m okay with that. It oscillates and is keeping our living room quite comfortable and combined with the one that was in the office – now residing in our bedroom (office and guest room are closed), the HVAC unit is running much less often as well as not having to utilize the heat strips as often.
Life is good!
