It’s not just the deck…

If you’ve followed us for a while, you know Stu rebuilt our entire deck last spring/summer. We took advantage of some off season sales and purchased a new patio dining set and a Blackstone grill (we still have our regular gas grill). They’ve been sitting unboxed in the pole barn.

We had two cypress Adirondack chairs that we bought back when we were full-timing in the Finger Lakes of NY. When Cooper and Murphy were pups, they did a lot of chewing on them, but we still used them (with cushions). With the deck rebuild, we decided to replace them, too. I spent way too many hours reading reviews, watching prices, and not making a decision. Then Stu said something about replacing them with synthetic Adirondack style chairs. I hit the internet again and found dark brown oversized ones at Sam’s Club cheaper than anywhere else. Our cushions were still good and the chairs are quite comfortable.

Next up was putting the patio set together. Wow! Talk about a ton of packing materials. A couple of hours work and it was done. Really nice! Glad we got it on sale last fall.

Next up was the Blackstone grill. Much less work and we are looking forward to using it soon.

Then it was time to order covers for the chairs in the off-season and for the patio set when not in use. Of course, we need a place to store them so I started looking at deck boxes. We have two small ones that sit beside our chairs and one large one that holds an assortment of tools, cleaning materials, and bird food. More research and a decision to get a bench style with a back, and we settled on this one from Sam’s Club made by the same company as our new Adirondack chairs. It will arrive soon and give us a spot to store covers, cushions, pillows, etc.

One thing remained. Our patio table umbrella was finally trashed and we needed to replace it. Stu talked about an offset one (I was fine with the traditional middle-of-the-table one), but what he really wanted was a pergola with a retractable awning. Again, search – research – review – price check, but it was worth it. We found exactly what he wanted at Home Depot and it’s on the way here.

I got to sit out and enjoy the view this morning….moderate temps in the upper 60s until the winds moved in. Tomorrow is forecast to be in the low 40s for the high. Jeesh!

Cooper was so good during all this hullabaloo so he got a new bone as a treat. He headed off into the back yard to enjoy it.

One last big thing – we have ordered new windows from Window World. They should be installed in the 6-8 week timeframe. We will be working around Stu’s trip to MD since he will have to remove the outside awnings and shutters (good time to pressure wash them) as well as the curtains and blinds in all the inside windows. Eeep! Guess I’ll be cleaning blinds and curtains while they’re down. We’re excited about the windows. They will be much easier to clean, will have good screens, excellent protection from the cold as well as the heat from the sun in the summer (our bedroom and office face the west and it’s intense).

Today Stu is working on installing the gas tank in the Falcon, a new BackendofNowhereGarage.com blog will follow tomorrow.

Ciao for now!

We live is south Texas and bought a house 8 years ago knowing it needed new windows. We compared prices as to doing it ourselves or having a company do it. We went with Window World. About 5 guys came out and had old ones out and new ones in in about 6 hours. Cleaned up everything. We love them. They have been out twice for warranty work and no problem with that either.
