Summer time is vacation time for many. Whether you drive, fly, go far away, stay close to home, camp it or hotel it, here are a few items to help you stay a bit safer.
Anti-theft Purses & Backpacks
What should you look for in an anti-theft purse or backpack?
Here are some of the important features I look for – found in all Travelon bags.
Travelon and PacSafe are two of the major players in this field. I’ve owned items from both companies and never been disappointed. Here are a couple of bags I like…
- Travelon Anti-Theft Classic Large Backpack @ Amazon
- Pacsafe Metrosafe Anti-Theft Laptop Backpack @ Amazon
- Travelon Anti-Theft Complete Crossbody Bag @ Amazon
- Pacsafe Citysafe Anti-Theft Cross-Body Purse @ Amazon
None of these fit the bill for you? There are plenty of other choices, just search for anti-theft products.
RFID Wallets & Passport Holders
Do you need an RFID wallet or passport holder if you are carrying your items inside an RFID protected bag? I think you do. After all, you may not be using the larger bag all the time. I prefer the double protection.
Once again, there are a multitude of sizes and styles: wallets for men and women, neck wallets, money belts & more. Here are a few good ones.
Love your current wallet or just don’t want to buy a new one? Then get some of these RFID card sleeves. We used these for years before the wallets came out.
Personal Alarms
Personal alarms are small devices, easily attached to key rings, purses, backpacks, briefcases, and even belt loops. They emit a high-pitched sound when pressed alerting others around you and, hopefully, driving off attackers.
Amazon carries a large selection of personal alarms – all prices, sizes, colors.
Room Alarms
When traveling and staying in hotels or rentals, a layer of security can be added with the use of door alarms. Wedge door alarms have been around for a while and are easy to use. Newer devices include the Addalock Portable Door Lock and the Lewis N Clark Travel Door Alarm + Window Guard. They are small, portable, and easy to use. You can see a wide variety of alarms @ Amazon.
Slash-proof Camera Straps
Not everyone uses phones for taking photos, many still carry expensive cameras. Slash-proof (or resistant) straps come in both over the shoulder and around the neck styles. Here are a few of the straps sold @ Amazon.
- Travelon Anti-Theft Classic Plus Shoulder Strap @ Amazon
- PacSafe Carrysafe 100 GII Anti-Theft Camera Strap @ Amazon
- IMORDEN Falcon F-2 Anti-Theft Shoulder/Neck Sling DSLR Camera Strap with Exclusive Acra-Swiss Quick-Release Plate @ Amazon
As an Amazon affiliate, if you click and buy something from my links,
I may receive enough pennies to buy a cup of coffee. Thanks!
I like to think I am a bit of a mistrustiing (apparently that is not a real word DAMN), sort of chap. We have a cctv security system on the house that i check each day if we are away and it will also send an email. So I always know when the postman has been or there is a very active spider.
But I have never thought of some of those options. It’s a shame that we need to think of such things really, Human can be a dodgy lot at times sadly.
It is sad…we opted for the RFID passport holders and wallets before we moved to Ecuador. Then I added the anti-theft purse. Definitely sad…
I love this! Thanks for this great reminder that we need to keep our stuff safe while traveling. I will definitely be investigating these backpacks. I’m going to share on my sm. #MSTL
Glad it was a helpful reminder, Theresa/
To be honest, I’m always surprised it doesn’t happen to me at home…ha! I might check out the cross over body bag. #MLSTL
Hi Donna great to see you link up with us at #MLSTL and this post is timely for me as we are travelling overseas soon. I like the idea of the personal alarm not just for travelling but when I’m out running on my own. Have a great week and thanks again for linking up. x
great post from a fellow traveler. #MLSTP
Thank you, appreciate the visit!
Hi Donna, lovely to have you back at #MLSTL, I’m not sure this post fits our guidelines, so perhaps share something more “lifestyle” related next time? I’ve shared this on my SM 🙂
Ah, sorry – since travel is a major part of our lifestyle, I guess I didn’t consider it might not be for others. Better next time!
Hi Donna – the travel part is fine – it’s the review/sponsored posts part that we try to avoid. We love hearing about people’s travel adventures x
I use RFID bags and wallets. I haven’t used a personal alrm or a room alarm yet, but in the right place it could come in handy! # MLSTL
We haven’t tried those yet either but I think we will be picking something up soon for use in our travels.
Hi Donna, what great advice and options for travelers! I don’t get away much but am pinning this for future use! Thanks. 🙂 #MLSTL
Glad you found it useful, Candi.
Great reminders for keeping our belongings safe. I never knew about the camera strap! One can never be too trusting while traveling to all corners of the Earth. Best to secure belongings. I love the back pack recommendation. Sharing on my SM #MLSTL
Thanks, Barbie! Appreciate it…
