How we traveled…

We often get questions about our rig so I thought it would make sense to create a page attached to our blog that lays it all out. We no longer RV and will be putting our home on wheels up for sale.

“Freddie” the Freightliner

  • 2000 Freightliner, FL60, 4 door cab
  • Caterpillar 3126B
  • Allison 6 speed automatic
  • Tow body by Wilro
  • Original Dealer: Neely-Coble, Nashville, TN
  • 5th wheel Hitch: Trailer Saver Air Suspension

Since purchased this used in 2007 the following has been added:

  • Garmin Street pilot GPS, 7 inch screen
  • Rear and side camera system (replaced/upgraded in 2015)
  • Full synthetic lubricants
  • 2 spare 40lb LP tanks
  • Tool box
  • Electric adapters for RV hook-up
  • Tire Monitoring System

Oh yeah and 70,000+ trouble-free miles on the road.

“KaZy” the KZ Escalade Toy Hauler
The Escalade was bought new and modified at the factory with some customizations.

  • 2008 KZ 41CKS, Escalade Sportster (41′ long)
  • 10×8 Garage (Man Cave)
  • 40 gal fuel tank and pump
  • Storage area above garage
  • Pull down Screen at ramp opening
  • Cherry wood cabinets throughout
  • Bed over garage (access from living room) converted to cabinet storage with custom cabinetry to match
  • Queen bed, we drastically upgraded the original (upgraded?) mattress
  • Corner shower
  • Bedroom A/C
  • Garage A/C (can only run either the bedroom OR the garage at the same time)
  • Corian countertops
  • Dishwasher (won’t get another one, a novelty but for the most part useless)
  • Fireplace, electric with heat (won’t have another rig without one)
  • Convection Micro wave (no gas oven, RV ovens are about as useless as the dishwasher)
  • 3 burner stove
  • 32 inch Sony Bravia, LCD HDTV
  • Surround sound
  • Blu-Ray/DVD HD Player
  • Winegard HDTV antenna for DirecTV (replaced the Winegard Dome that we previously had)
  • Slendide Washer and Dryer, stacked (bumped out into the garage with custom louvered doors in the living area)
  • The always uncomfortable sleep sofa was replaced by a Lazyboy wall-away love seat (dual recliner seats).
  • 6.5KW Onan propane GenSet

We used the dining room table as a desk for Stu and have added a file cabinet and small computer desk for Donna. In addition we have added two side tables for the dual-reclining leather loveseat sofa that Stu put into the rig. The final addition was a coffee table with a top that lifts up and out, allowing it to be used for storage. (In 2018 when we moved to being snowbirds, the computer table and rolling desk chairs that were added later both came out, the dining table is back in stock position and is used by both for the computer area).
We have electric jacks, front and back and have added Cross Brace Stabilizers from Winfield RV Products. We also upgraded to MOR/ryde Wet Bolt Shackles (greasable) after the original ones failed after three hard years on the road.

The winter of 2010 we added a full solar setup to KaZy:

  • Four Kyocera 135SX solar panels
  • Six AGM 6-volt batteries
  • Blue Sky Solar Boost 3024i with IPN Pro
  • Prosine 2.0 (2000watt) Pure Sine Wave Inverter
  • ITS 50 amp Transfer Switch
  • #2 gauge wire from junction box to batteries
  • #8 gauge wire from panels to junction box

We carried two motorcycles in the garage of the toy hauler. Stu’s 2009 Harley-Davidson Tri-Glide and Donna’s 2011 Harley-Davidson SuperLow Sportster. They JUST fit… (Now we have just our 2015 Harley-Davidson Tri-Glide in there.)
