Is it fall yet?

Not quite, but our high temps have definitely dropped a bit. I’m hoping in another two weeks (by my birthday), we’ll be digging out our long sleeved shirts most of the time. Then it’s on to sweater and sweatshirt days and I’ll be a happy camper.

Speaking of fall, the hornets and wasps are starting to settle in for the colder weather. In less than two days, this is what they built on top of our 16′ high garage door on our pole barn.

Yes, it’s as big as it looks!

Needless to say, after Stu’s experience in the fall with a sting that sent him to the ER, he opted to call in the professionals. We use Advanced Termite and Pest Control for our twice a year treatments so he called them. They came out two days later and took care of the problem – NO CHARGE! Now that is customer service.

First he poked a hole in so he could get to the queen.

The hornets were well riled and if you look close at this video, you can see them in the air as he sprayed. Stu moved far away to watch the action.

The aftermath…

These were bald-faced hornets – nasty things. Found this to read…EEEP!

He said this was the fourth call he’s been out on this week and when he was done, said it was the largest he’d seen. There were three combs inside! We’re just glad to have it gone and he also got rid of a dead hive in another spot.

And in other news….Stu brought me the prettiest blue feather from the front yard. It’s now on my desk.

The fish in our pond are doing quite well…Stu and the #2doods feed them most every day and the rain has cleared up some of the algae that was on the surface. Watching this video, I think the Blue Heron that visits from time to time has plenty to snack on.

And in closing, here’s a great photo of Cooper and Murphy, waiting to be petted.  Not sure you can tell, but they each have one paw in Stu’s lap. The older they get, the better behaved they have become. Yes, Cooper can still go hyper (whirling dervish style), but he also sits almost immediately when it’s time for a treat or some attention. They are both a joy and we love having them around.

Ciao for now!
