A little of this, a little of that, and some news

The weather has been fluctuating from snow time to mud time. Normally that wouldn’t bother me. But with the goofy #2doods, mud time means a real mess. Stu is working on a solution for the dirt track down the fence line – they love to race it, especially when our neighbor dog, Diesel the German Shepherd, is racing on the other side. Right now it takes both of us to wash their feet enough that they can come inside. I’m ready for dry ground! Our last snowfall was only 3″ and very light and powdery. Thank goodness!

Some time ago, I saw a tip for storing soda/water bottles on a shoe rack. I found an inexpensive one online at Collections Etc and ordered it for our garage. We haven’t had room to put it up but now that we have sold our compact freezer and replaced it with an upright, it was time to rearrange and Stu found the perfect spot – behind where the old freezer sat and up on the concrete ledge (putting it at a good height for access). Here’s what it looks like with his stash of Gatorade Zero (he drinks a lot of it during warmer weather).

And speaking of freezers – this one shows the old one (now sold to a local resident for what we paid for it two years ago) and our new upright, a Frigidaire we got from Home Depot.

Even though we almost doubled the cubic footage, an upright just doesn’t store as much. The new freezer is over 3/4 full and the old one was only 1/2 full. But that’s okay – now we can easily see what we have (or don’t have) as well as put the newer items behind the older ones. We are thrilled with it.

In more exciting news, we have booked a transatlantic cruise from London to Galveston in October 2023. This will be the inaugural voyage for the newly built Carnival Jubilee. It’s an 18 day cruise with the following itinerary:

Start: London (Southampton), England
La Coruña, Spain
Vigo, Spain
Funchal (Madeira), Portugal
Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Canary Islands
Las Palmas, Canary Islands
Grand Turk, Turks and Caicos
End: Galveston, Texas

We are both so excited about this trip. Rather than fly into London, we plan to fly into Edinburgh, Scotland and do a 5 day tour with Highland Explorer Tours. Then we’ll train (or fly) from Edinburgh to Southampton the day before the cruise. We’ve had a blast reading websites, doing a ton research, and working on tentative itineraries. Because we are going in late autumn, we know the weather will be cooler than our normal cruises (other than Alaska). We both have ordered waterproof boots for tramping aroung the Scottish Highlands. I fell in love with these from Kodiak. I plan on black leggings so the pop of color is great. We will be minimizing our wardrobe, using one rolling duffel and a backpack for the Scottish part of the tour.

The #2doods don’t mind the cold but on this day, they had been out for hours and obviously needed the extra warmth when they finally came in.

Yesterday they were sunning on the deck!

For those who wondered, we are loving our treadmill. Due to my COVID, I’m only up to 5-10 minutes a day but Stu is doing 40-45 minutes when we can’t get outside to walk.

Ciao for now!

I love your boots, must admit I’m a bit envious! Your itinerary for 2023 sounds delightful. Something to look forward to and such and interesting mix of cultures and travel styles.

I am loving the boots – too many years of neutral colors. Now I get to splash it up! We are so excited about this trip, We are resigned ourselves to never making it to Scotland. This gives us the perfect opportunity.
