Europe Postmortem – Clothing

As previously mentioned in my planning post, I carefully chose what I was going to take. I was going to wear as much merino wool as possible to conserve space. We did have to deal with temperatures from the upper 90s in Florida to the low 40s in Scotland. Plus the possibility of rainy weather. I ended up with a few things I didn’t wear, but for the most part, I had few regrets.

Here was my semi-final list (there were still some adjustments at packing time). I crossed out the items I either didn’t pack or didn’t wear. I added one long dress that I wore almost exclusively for formal cruise dinners.

Things I wore once and not again, plus other notes:

  • Capri leggings (both print and black) – worn once each, could have easily done without
  • Print leggings (each worn once while cruising)
  • PJ shorts (not comfortable, have since replaced)
  • Too many scarves, I think I ended up with five and I only used two
  • Little Andy Donkey pants were great for car travel, think I wore once or twice on the cruise on warm days
  • I brought my Icebreaker wool joggers in place of the second pair of Little Andy Donkey pants. I should have brought another pair – perfect for evening lounging.
  • Quick dry pants from Duluth Trading were perfect travel pants in Europe, lots of pockets
  • I could have packed less non-wool undies
  • I only needed one non-wool bra, black – for under dressy clothes
  • I didn’t need all the socks. One compression, two ankle, and one hiking would have been fine
  • I did bring a little jewelry for the cruises, but never wore

Other than the overshirts (worn for cruise dinners), I wore wool tops every day mixed with wool leggings and tunics/cardigans/dress. I could have definitely packed fewer tops. The one 3/4 sleeve tee was my work horse and since it was the only one I had. So, I just bought a second one. Great for all but the coldest and hottest days.

I will be using this as a guideline for packing up for our three weeks of cruising in January, combined with a week of driving and family time. Merino undies and bras are SOOOOO comfy!

Ciao for now!
