Grounded…

When we last saw you, we were planting trees. Guess what we’ve been doing since then? You guessed it, planting trees. And no, we aren’t done yet, I think we have 15 evergreens and maybe a dozen forsythia bushes to go. But there is rain in the forecast every day this week, so they will have to wait. Here are a few photos of the process.

Stu opted for a sod cutter this time around, much easier than the rototiller. He cut through three rows and rolled up one initially. The others got rolled up just before we planted the trees.

The sod got put out in places in the yard where it was needed due to low spots or little grass growth.

Then it was time to measure and mark where the trees would be planted. This is where I helped…and yes, I look like the little old lady I am! (Not sure how I look older without glasses, but I think I do.)

The Giant Thuja Evergreens are happy to be in the ground.

Next up were the forsythia bushes. Growing up in New England, I always loved seeing the bright yellow bushes announce the arrival of spring. We got these from a wholesaler, 25 of them for $70 (or so). They are bare root but a couple already had buds on them. They can grow quite large but since these are at the back end of the pasture, it’s okay if they grow wild. If we lose some, the others will eventually fill in.

Things are blooming around the yard, a couple weeks later than this time last year, but still welcome.

And in the last piece of news, Stu got his vanity plate for Blaze (his project car, 1965 Ford Falcon convertible). He put a lot of thought into what he wanted.

Ciao for now!
