Week one and done, having so much fun

Stu has been gone just over a week and while most days have been quiet, yesterday was, um, interesting? Here are some of the highlights…

YESTERDAY

I ordered toilet paper and mixed nuts from Sam’s Club. The small box was one package of 24 rolls of TP. I could manage the weight but it was a bit bulky, so I just tipped it inside. The big upright box was another 24 rolls of TP plus three containers of mixed nuts. That made for not only a very bulky box, but one way too heavy for me. The delivery driver had put it on top of our package box so I tipped it down to the porch. Then flipped it over and over until I got it inside. Then I opened both boxes in the foyer. They never think about the little old 78 year old lady who has to deal with these…

While putting away some things in our guest room closet, I pulled out the bag holding our travel power banks and found this!

It was one of our oldest ones…wow! I contacted Stu and he told me to set it outside the garage on the concrete apron and he will dispose of it when he gets home. So, here’s your reminder. CHECK YOUR POWER BANKS FROM TIME TO TIME!

Later in the day, I walked out onto the deck and stood in the sun for a minute. When I looked down I saw…well, I went in to get my phone so I could make a video to show you what I saw.

So I spent the next 30 minutes picking up all the shredded cardboard. I tried to move the box back under the deck where it had been, but it was way too heavy for me. Obviously wasn’t for Cooper since he pulled the intact box out onto the grass. Sigh…

But was my day done? Nope! It was around 6pm when I heard Cooper barking. After several minutes, I went out to call him inside and saw him laying the the grass by our shed. There was something in front of him and he picked it up, tossed it, barked at it, and did it again. Not sure if it was a baby bunny, I told him to LEAVE IT, NOT YOURS. He got up, took a few steps and watched me approach. It was a baby bird who either fell out of the nest or had tried to fly but wasn’t ready. His parents were in the trees above me and were loudly scolding me. At this point, all I could do was bring Cooper inside and hope the bird would fly away to safety.

About thirty minutes later I looked out the kitchen window and there was the baby bird, hopping his way across the yard. Cooper was bound to get him, so off I went and eventually got him under the safely of the evergreen trees. I hoped he would be safe there until he could fly.

TODAY

I slept in and woke with a bit of backache, so took it slow. As I was sitting on the loveseat reading Facebook posts, I noticed a bird on the deck making a lot of noise. Then it would fly away, then come back and flit from post to post, chirping away.

I looked out and saw food in the bird’s mouth and I am pretty sure this is one of the parents chirping for the baby so they can feed it. Sadly, I am now thinking baby didn’t make it. If you zoom in the photo below, you can see the bug in the bird’s mouth. Twice I saw some food presented, then I took a short video.

Stu is in kid, grandbaby (although they aren’t babies anymore) and great-grandbaby heaven. Here are some photos!

Well, I wonder what next week will bring?

Ciao for now!
